Details
This beautiful colourful Douglas Fir weaving is handwoven from 100% natural materials: Douglas Fir, Butchart Gardens Natural Dyed Merino wool (limited run)
Perfect for hanging in your favourite space, or as a cluster with a variety of natural wall art pieces.
I’ve been working away at this for a few years now, bit by bit, little by little, collecting teeny thin fir twigs from dead fall trip after trip. I can see where new adventures began and old finished, it’s ever so subtle, maybe a lighter coloured bundle of twigs bleached by the sun, maybe a little more moss on some more than others, a different colour, thickness, consistency. If you look closely you can see the subtleties in change and only imagine the trips taken and where each stitch was woven in.
This piece represents positive change + forward momentum, change of the seasons, one merging into the next until eventually it is no more, change of perspective, perception, state, position, all parts of us, nature, this space and time, eventually falling and fading away and being replaced by something new. Sometimes slowly merging and sometimes abruptly ending by choice or force. The only thing that’s guaranteed in life is death and change, look forwards, savour joy, and do what makes your heart happy. Life is short, change is inevitable, love is key.
Home adornment for conversion and love.

The Process
This basket was made using the coiling technique dating back 10,000 years ago, leaving a strong sense of connection to ancestors, past lives, family and community and the self. With each stitch connecting to the next passing round and round, every time something new is woven it creates a new journey bringing amazing energy and growth. This particular basket when woven was used to create a meditative state to bring peace to the maker that carries over to the baskets owner.
